International Underwriting Association
The IUA is the representational organisation for international commercial insurers and reinsurers trading though London. IUA's aim is to ensure that the international market centred on London offers its members a first class environment in which to do business. To this end, the IUA/Lloyd's Forum was set up in July 1999, and IUA representatives have worked with Lloyd's and brokers on the London Market Principles 2001 - a set of proposals for market reform. Formed from the merger of Institute of London Underwriters (ILU) with London Insurance and Reinsurance Market Association (LIRMA) in 1998, the IUA's membership includes virtually every large and medium sized company in the industry. The association covers all classes of business, and its horizons stretch well beyond London. It represents members to policy makers and regulators in the US, the European Union World Trade Association talks, as well as the International Association of Insurance Supervisors and the UN International Maritime Organization. The IUA's subsidiary, the London Processing Centre, processes premiums and claims of IUA members electronically across Europe. IUA looks to promote e-commerce, to encourage education and training and provide information and publish research.
