Liverpool John Moores University has a long and distinguished history of providing maritime training, education and research beginning with the formation of the Liverpool Nautical College in 1892.

The University's Maritime Academy brings together world class research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and the professional training and advanced simulation facilities. The Liverpool Academy delivers degree courses covering marine engineering, nautical science, maritime operations, port management, security and safety, and international trade and logistics. Courses can also be designed to an industrial client's specification and can be delivered in a range of formats.

The Maritime Academy also provides advanced training and research facilities for maritime professionals to meet the ever changing requirements of the maritime industry. The academy's Lairdside Maritime Centre comprises a ship-handling simulator that is amongst the most advanced in Europe and currently the only one in the UK with a full 360� field-of-view visual system.

Research on topics such as risk, safety management and security, electronic charts and navigation studies combined with close links to the maritime industry and regulatory bodies help to ensure that the maritime curriculum is kept up-to-date with advances in technology and professional practice.
