The Royal Bank of Scotland
The Royal Bank of Scotland plc ('RBS') has been involved in shipping finance for more than 250 years and is one of the world's leading banks in shipping finance. RBS is the leading lender to the Greek shipping market. Its Greek connection started in the 1920s through its St Mary Axe branch situated near the Baltic Exchange. This connection grew in 1974 with the opening of a branch in Piraeus. In more recent years, the portfolio has expanded considerably both in size and in terms of geographic coverage. We now have a presence in all of the major shipping markets internationally with relationship managers dedicated to specific geographical markets. We pride ourselves on the close working relationships between Relationship Managers, Operational Staff and Product Specialists throughout the Bank. This integrated approach helps ensure that financing and banking solutions are tailored to our customers' broader business objectives and that the implementation of arrangements is conducted smoothly. We provide a unique 'one-stop' service to the shipping industry, providing finance and banking products to owners, charterers, P&I and insurance brokers. One of the special features of the Bank's mode of operation is the recognition that shipping is a specialist area with a need for experienced staff with a knowledge and commitment to the industry. RBS has several members of staff with more than 20 years experience in the industry. RBS has a dedicated team that specialises in the provision of tailor-made Risk Management and Investment products exclusively to the Bank's global shipping client base. The Bank also has the ability to develop and undertake innovative and substantial structured transactions to match specific finance requirements, including specialist tonnage, e.g. LNG, car carriers, and offshore vessels.
