Maritime London and Norton Rose Fulbright hold two successful hybrid events as part of LISW21

Posted on: 15 November 2021

Maritime London and Norton Rose Fulbright joined forces to organise two hybrid events on Thursday 16th September as part of the London International Shipping Week.

SHIPPING IPOs – WHAT IS THE MARKET REALLY LIKE?
Held as a hybrid event, this panel discussion about the important factors in considering the stock market as a route to attract equity investment.

There has been an increased appreciation of the value of the shipping industry to the global economy during the COVID-19 pandemic but has this increased the industry’s appeal to the IPO market?

The event was moderated by Eleanor Martin, Banking and Finance Partner, Norton Rose Fulbright. Panellists were: Edward Buttery, Founder and CEO Taylor Maritime (joining online); Axel Kalinowski, Head of Central and Southern Europe at London Stock Exchange (joining in person); Richard Sheen, Corporate Partner and Head of Funds and Asset Management, Norton Rose Fulbright (joining in person); and Christa T. Volpicelli, Head of Shipping Investment Banking, Citi (joining online from New York).

THE PROPOSED INCLUSION OF THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY IN EU ETS
This panel discussion also took the form of a hybrid event focusing on the potential impact of the proposal to include the shipping industry in the EU’s Emissions Trading System (EU ETS).

The extension of the EU ETS to include shipping is part of a number of proposed updates by the EU to its green deal, which were published on 14th July 2021. The proposals envisage the shipping industry becoming incrementally subject to the EU ETS, with shipowners having to surrender allowances annually to cover increasing proportions of their greenhouse gas emissions.

The event was co-organised by Maritime London and Norton Rose Fulbright and moderated by Philip Roche, Global Co-Head of Shipping, Norton Rose Fulbright (joining in person). Panellists were: Jacob Armstrong, Sustainable Shipping Officer, Transport & Environment (joining online from Brussels); Ulrik (Dan) Frorup, Director Special Projects and External Affairs, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (joining online from Paris); Mark Jackson, CEO, The Baltic Exchange (joining in person); and Tom Strang, SVP Maritime Affairs, Carnival Corporation & plc (joining online).
