Southampton Solent University’s Warsash Maritime Academy has provided first-class education, training, consultancy and research services to the international shipping, commercial yacht, offshore oil and gas, and renewables industries for nearly 70 years.
We are a technically advanced training facility with a truly global reputation for delivering internationally recognised maritime certification programmes for navigation, marine engineer and marine electro-technical officers, from initial entry as an officer cadet up to Master, Chief Engineer and Chief Electro-technical officer level. To complement the professional education and training the University offers a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research opportunities for the maritime sector.
We also provide a number of short safety courses for all maritime personnel for the development of skills such as fire fighting and sea survival, and continuous professional development modules are offered for more experienced officers.
We pioneered the use of bridge, engine room and liquid cargo operations simulators for higher-level training, and our specialist ship handling training facility is the only one in the UK.
Our teaching faculty of over 120 expert lecturers is highly respected internationally, attracting professional seafarers from around the globe. Active participation in the work of professional bodies ensures that our staff members are involved in the decision-making processes that shape maritime education and training policy.
