‘Mersey on the Thames’ event gathers pace

Posted on: 17 August 2015

With less than a month to go until the start of London International Shipping Week (LISW15, 7 – 11 September) registrations for Mersey Maritime’s ‘Mersey-on-the-Thames’ reception are pouring in thick and fast.

Mersey Maritime, in association with some of its key members, is hosting what is already being billed as one of the most exciting events at LISW on 9th September at The Walkie Talkie Building, 20 Fenchurch Street.

‘Mersey-On-The-Thames’, which is being held in the offices of leading law firm DWF on the 31st floor of the Walkie Talkie, will see Mersey Maritime – the industry representative body for the maritime and related sectors across the Liverpool city region – joined by some of its highest level members and partners, including Peel Ports Group, Liverpool Football Club, Liverpool John Moores University, Atlantic Container Line (UK), Seatruck Ferries and the Isle of Man Ship Registry.

“Liverpool is a city region with impeccable maritime credentials,” said Mersey Maritime Acting CEO Chris Shirling-Rooke, “and this event is designed to demonstrate to the international maritime community that we’re a city that’s well and truly open for business.

Speaking about some of the presentations at the event, Mr Shirling-Rooke added: “Peel Ports Group [owner-operators of the Port of Liverpool and the Manchester Ship Canal] will be presenting their very exciting vision for the future, including the opening of Liverpool2, the new £300m deep-water container terminal at the port, and their £ multi-billion infrastructure investments which are set to regenerate huge tracts of docklands on both sides of the River Mersey.”

Gary Hodgson, Chief Operating Officer at Peel Ports Group said: “I am very much looking forward to being part of ‘Mersey-on-the-Thames’. Mersey Maritime can always be relied on to pull together events that capture the imagination and reflect the thriving and dynamic business environment that Liverpool offers to UK and international investors.

“Liverpool2 will be the UK’s most centrally located deep-water container terminal capable of handling the largest container ships in the global fleet while at the same time doubling the port’s container capacity. The investments will drive jobs and deliver international trade to the very centre of the UK – representing a huge opportunity to fuel the concept of a Northern Powerhouse and help to rebalance the UK economy.”

Mersey Maritime, together with key partners Peel Group and Liverpool John Moores University will also make a major announcement during the course of the evening.
