Maritime UK welcomes Sir John Parker’s Shipbuilding Report

Posted on: 4 December 2016

Maritime UK has welcomed the publication of Sir John Parker’s Independent Report into UK naval shipbuilding. The report sets out recommendations to transform the UK’s shipbuilding industry and boost the prosperity of shipyards and supply chains across the UK.

David Dingle, Chair of Maritime UK said:  “Growth in UK naval shipbuilding is a significant prize, and we welcome Sir John’s timely report. Growth here will also benefit shipbuilding across the sector, including its many SMEs and wider supply chain.

“From the RSS Sir David Attenborough being built by Cammell Laird in Merseyside, Princess Yacht’s new investment in the UK’s world-leading superyacht industry, Thames Clipper’s expanded fleet being built on the Isle of Wight, to the Royal Navy’s Type 26 Global Combat Ships being built in Glasgow, we’re seeing positive signs for UK shipbuilding.

“International interest in UK shipbuilding is on the rise too, and Maritime UK will be promoting and championing this important part of our sector across the world.

“A strong and successful shipbuilding industry will benefit the whole of the maritime sector. Sir John’s report has valuable recommendations to help accelerate this recent progress, and we look forward to the NSS being published in the spring.”
