Denis Petropoulos announced as Chair of LISW23 Board of Advisers

Posted on: 11 January 2022

Shipping Innovation, owner and manager of London International Shipping Week (LISW), is delighted to announce the appointment of its chairs for the LISW23 Board of Advisors and LISW23 Steering Group.

Baltic Exchange Chair Denis Petropoulos will succeed Lord Mountevans as Chair of the LISW23 Board of Advisors while John Hulmes, Chair of Mersey Maritime, will assume a third term as Chair of the LISW23 Steering Group.

Welcoming the appointments and thanking Lord Mountevans for his hard work chairing the past four LISWs, Sean Moloney, Director of Shipping Innovation, said the renowned industry experience that Denis and John will bring to the running and governance of this important event will be significant as LISW looks to build on the international attraction and reputation this major industry week has earned.

“LISW was extremely fortunate to have had a BOA Chair of the calibre of Lord Mountevans and Shipping Innovation and all the stakeholders in LISW would like to say a massive thank you to him for his dedication and commitment to the event. It was only a matter of four months ago when we successfully attracted thousands of attendees, virtually and in-person, to LISW2021 and we are very excited about the prospect of the next LISW instalment in September 2023, held at a time when shipping should have fully recovered from the impact of the Covid pandemic and should be enjoying even more face-to-face meetings,” he said.

Welcoming his appointment, Denis Petropoulos said: “I would like to echo Sean’s sentiments and thank Jeffrey Mountevans for his hard work and leadership over the last four LISW instalments. And especially during LISW21 when we were deep in the throes of the global pandemic.

“LISW is so important, not only to London and the UK, but to international shipping because it brings like minded people together to chart the future course for this crucial industry. I will be looking to build on the excellent efforts already taken and work to grow LISW’s international reach and importance. London is a major international maritime centre and with LISW by its side, it can look forward to an even stronger role internationally in the years ahead.”

John Hulmes, added: “Notwithstanding the ravages of the COVID pandemic, LISW21 gave the UK the platform to show the world why it remains the thought leader for the international maritime industry. The world is going through a period of unprecedented challenge and change and LISW23 will be the key focal point for the shipping leaders from around the world to meet and review the current and future state of our industry.”

Organised with the full backing of the UK Government as well as the international and domestic UK maritime industries, LISW23 will attract the world’s shipping industry leaders and thought leaders to London in September 2023 to network and debate key issues facing the industry.
