Hill Dickinson yachts team receives top ranking

Posted on: 27 July 2021

Hill Dickinson’s yacht team has earned a top ranking in the recently published Chambers Review High Net Worth Guide 2021, attracting significant high praise from its international clients.

With offices in five cities, including London, Monaco and Hong Kong, Hill Dickinson is regarded by its clients as “probably the most experienced and capable legal team in the yachting industry, certainly in Europe,” the guide reports.

Chambers Research is conducted by 200 research analysts, across 200 jurisdictions and provides nearly 6,000 rankings tables annually, based on the hundreds of thousands of responses it obtains from clients, the majority via in-depth interview.

Noting that Hill Dickinson’s team is “very active” in the market, the guide allocates them a top Band 1 ranking. One interviewee described the Hill Dickinson team as “always helpful, knowledgeable and pragmatic,” concluding: “Hill Dickinson are probably the go-to company for professional legal support for any top-end yacht transaction or legal issue.”

Several key members of the firm’s yachting team attracted complimentary comments which included “knowledgeable”, “extremely professional”, “straightforward”, “pragmatic”, “tenacious”. They also noted a general “lack of ego” among the expert and effective team members.

In particular, experienced and renowned yachting sector practitioner Tony Allen, Head of Yachts, was ranked individually in Band 1 and described as “a leading European maritime lawyer” and “one of the top in the large yacht industry”.

The practice of yacht law regularly involves multiple jurisdictions and can potentially include corporate structure, liability, dispute resolution, inheritance and tax issues, as well as regulation, certification, contractual and crew matters. It is a sector of maritime law which has significantly increased over the past decades and today the purchase and operation of a superyacht can involve navigating a myriad of complex matters.

Tony Goldsmith, Hill Dickinson Head of marine, commented: “We are pleased to see such impressive feedback for our yachts team which recognises the comprehensive expertise and professionalism they provide across a range of areas associated with the yacht and superyacht sector.”
