Ince appoints Jennette Newman as Partner and Head of Insurance

Heavyweight hire bolsters the firm’s ability to help insurance clients navigate increasingly complex global challenges

Posted on: 1 December 2021

International legal and professional services firm, Ince, today announces the recruitment of Jennette Newman as a new Partner and Head of Insurance in its London office, strengthening the business’s position as one of the leading law firms with specialist insurance market capabilities. She will have responsibility for Ince’s global insurance practice and will be joined by additional new appointments Leanne Consibee and Imogen Webb, as Partner and Senior Associate respectively.

Jennette has held senior business roles at both Clyde & Co and BLM where she was responsible for operational transformation and modernisation, and sector growth; both in respect of internal business-related strategy and externally in market and client-facing roles, covering client delivery models and strategic new business sector penetration. Jennette will play a crucial role in building on Ince’s existing strengths in insurance and growing its insurance proposition and sector reach.

Jennette is also a recognised UK and international casualty lawyer with over 20 years’ experience in claims, defence litigation and coverage, advising insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, corporates and other risk carriers on all aspects of their claims, investigation process, litigation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). She has a wealth of experience dealing with highly sensitive multi-party, multi-jurisdictional, and high-value and complex claims.

Leanne is a highly technical expert in all aspects of liability claims including health and safety investigations, inquests and risk management strategies and advice. Imogen also has significant experience in serious and fatal injury claims, product liability issues, regulatory investigations, and general casualty. Both are well placed to add to the strength and depth of the existing Ince insurance team.

Commenting on the announcement, Jennette Newman, said: “I am proud to join Ince and see fantastic potential to develop what is already a strong and visionary practice. My main focus will be to embrace a modern client-centric approach by building and investing extensively in client relationships to ensure Ince’s insurance services continue to be innovative and value-driven by offering tangible and strategic value at the core of our service.

“It is an increasingly complex time for the insurance sector, with clients having to navigate a range of challenging issues from climate risk transition, the role of data and AI, increasing systemic risk and social inflation and to enhancing public trust in the sector across product lines and ESG. I will be leading Ince’s inclusive and forward-thinking Insurance team as we anticipate clients’ evolving needs and ensure they are well supported and able to continue to meet these challenges head-on.”

Julian Clark, Global Senior Partner at Ince, added: “We are hugely excited about these appointments. Jennette has a deep understanding of both the technical and business context of the insurance sector, which makes her the ideal person to lead our practice. Her hire is testament to Ince’s commitment to the insurance sector and our ability to attract the best talent in the market.”

Adrian Biles, Chief Executive at Ince, concluded: “We are delighted that someone of Jennette’s experience and reputation has chosen to join Ince.  The market is continually evolving, with increasing complexities and risks that our clients need to manage.  It is therefore critical that they have access to a deep technical and commercial pool of knowledge and expertise to mitigate the challenges, which these new appointments further provide.”

Jennette is the immediate past President of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL). She is also Chair of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s (CII) Professional Standards Committee, Non-Executive Director of the Chartered Insurance Institute, and a Member of The Worshipful Company of Insurers’ Livery Committee. She is recognised in the Legal 500 individual Hall of Fame.
