Shipowners’ Club warns Turkey revised its pollution fines

Posted on: 3 February 2020

The Shipowners’ Club reports in a circular that, with effect from 1 January 2020, the level of fines imposed for causing pollution in Turkey have been revised to reflect increases of approximately 23% from the previous year.

This update is in response to the recent changes in Turkish environmental law and the significantly higher pollution fines that are now being imposed by the authorities. The intention of this update is to enhance Members’ awareness and provide some practical tips for reducing potential exposure to such fines.

Pollution fines are imposed under the Turkish Environment Code dated 1983, number 2872.

For more details on the revised levels of fines please see here.
